Letterpress broadside of a quote from Wendell Berry's novel "Hannah Coulter," printed in black and gold linseed oil ink on white Flurry Cotton letterpress paper.
"Love is what carries you, for it is always there, even in the dark, or most in the dark, but shining out a times like gold stitches in a piece of embroidery."
The type for this print is hand set, one letter at time, in 36 & 24 pt. Lydian. In each line, one letter "i" is highlighted in gold ink to represent the stitches in the embroidery. The ornament in the credit line is also printed in gold. Each print was passed through a 1911 Chandler and Price printing press three times, once for the black text and twice for the gold to make it bolder. Because letterpress prints are made by hand, they may vary slightly from one to another.
I make all prints in my shop personally by hand, including typesetting, carving illustrations, and printing on the press.
The print measures 8 by 10 inches and will fit easily in a standard frame. Frame is not included.
