Letterpress print of lines from the poem "Morte d'Arthur" by Alfred, Lord Tennyson, printed in deep red linseed oil ink on cream Flurry Cotton letterpress paper. These lines are Arthur's words to Sir Bedivere as he prepares to die, urging his friend not to despair at the end of the Round Table but rather to trust that there is more than one good thing in God's plan for the world.
The type for this print is hand set, one letter at time, in 24 pt. Italian Old Style, with a vintage drop cap to accompanying. The design behind is a vintage block featuring knights, fleurs de lis, and swords in stones. It was most likely originally used to create the end papers for a book of Arthuriana. Each print was passed through a 1911 Chandler and Price printing press two times, once for the image and once for the text. Because letterpress prints are made by hand, they may vary slightly from one to another.
I make all prints in my shop personally by hand, including typesetting, carving illustrations, and printing on the press.
The print measures 8 by 10 inches and will fit easily in a standard frame. Frame is not included.
