T.S. Eliot – Life is Very Long
This print features a quote from the final section of T.S. Eliot’s poem “The Hollow Men.” In the poem, which depicts a bleak view of life and the afterlife as one of “the hollow men, the stuffed men.” The final section uses broken, repeated phrases leading up to its well-known conclusion
This is the way the world ends,

Not with a bang but a whimper.
I chose this line to print, however, because despite the possibility of despair to be found in a long drawn-out lifetime, turned on its head, this short sentence can also inspire hope: Life is very long. In time, we may find healing for suffering, renewal for broken relationships, redemption for the things we have lost. If life is very long, then what we are experiencing right now will most likely not last forever.
However the line is interpreted, the red period at the end of this short sentence invites you to look beyond what seems black-and-white, to think again, perhaps to find hope and renewed purpose where they did not seem possible before.
This print was hand-set in antique wooden type, individually hand-inked, and printed one at a time on a 1913 Chandler & Price printing press. It is 12 by 18 inches and printed on a thick cream paper specially made for letterpress printing by Boxcar Press. No two prints are exactly alike.

This print is beautiful! Sarah clearly puts so much care into what she designs and prints. I bought this for a gift and ended up keeping it for myself...will be purchasing another one for sure! Could not recommend this shop more! :)
