This 8 by 10–inch letterpress print features a quote from Pulitzer Prize—winning novelist and essayist Marilynne Robinson’s first novel, Housekeeping. The quote is printed in metallic silver ink and is surrounded by a burst of colorful “printers’ flowers”—wooden ornamental letterpress blocks that have been inked by hand so that every print is unique.
All type was handset, and the print was made on a 1911 Chandler and Price printing press in my studio in White River Junction, Vermont.
